Learn Digital Photography – Choosing the right digital SLR

July 28th, 2010 admin

If you’re new to photography, then you’ve probably read or seen much of the ongoing debate among photographers whether Canon is better than Nikon or vice versa. Canon and Nikon are the two main brands of SLR and are constantly in a battle to build a better digital camera. The competition is tight and victory in the race ebbs and flows two manufacturers each year the new devices are introduced cameras.

Let’s go to the bottom line. We have had enough of this debate and the need to consider why. I guess it’s like a BMW is better than a Mercedes or a Lexus is better than an Audi. There will never be a definitive answer as the two manufacturers to perpetuate the race. Some forums have banned all photographs of this debate. So why the debate continue? Is this for the sake of debate or there are factors to consider.

The following criteria will help you make a choice on which camera is best for you.

1. Personal preferences

This point is vital. I confess that I have a Canon user, because the first camera of my father gave me was a Canon. I fell in like with it and became my partner. While Canon. I like how they look and I like how it feels to hold. It’s my personal choice and the feeling on the camera at him. Nothing more. The Nikon may be a better camera for all I care, but Canon is the one for me. Plain and simple.

2. Aim

What you’ll use your camera? The reason to include this as one of the criteria is that you need to know what is the main goal will be. Both the camera manufacturers have a wide range of digital SLR and within these ranges some are better than others for specific purposes. And it is only within your own brand. So when you look at both some brands will be best for a particular purpose. For example, you might need a camera that has a rate quicker frames per second and writes a memory card quicker. Specifically, a Nikon support could be better in this area that Canon Nikon to be the choice.

3. Price Range

This is related to the above criteria. In a particular price segment, the camera may have more features you need. So with this limitation in mind prices may have to go for the cheapest way to obtain these functions. So maybe in this price range the best of both houses may be Canon.

4. Conditions of Use

This is very vital. If you are a traveler may find that the Nikon in the range that you see is stronger than the equivalent Canon, although the Canon has some nice features better. Canon and Nikon do not choose because it is more suitable for travel. Other factors such as dust and moisture and seals must be determined on the basis of the choice of the camera that has those characteristics, if you use the device in more humid or dusty.

I do not reckon the goal of every manufacturer is building the digital camera is ideal for all situations and conditions. Personally, I reckon it would be impossible, probably because of the costs involved. It all comes down to personal choice which usually helps the camera manufacturer more money. It is better to sell two homes that cover all the needs of a photographer.

My advice to those who need to take a choice on buying a Nikon or a Canon digital camera is to observe all these criteria and make a choice for your needs in photography. The brand of the device should be the last thing to consider. In doing so, you will certainly find their choices limited from preconceptions.
