1. Get travel insurance before leaving. If there is demand, the company is sure that the trip began after the travel insurance was purchased.

2. Tell your fellow passengers about their travel insurance, so they know what to do if something happens to you, and you are unable to phone in your request. Here’s why:

? Will speed processing, and make it easier to file your application.

? This will reduce the stress of having to explain the situation while in pain.

3. Do not throw receipts for your trips. Travel insurance often covers the additional costs for meals, hotels, taxis and phone calls at home relocation or return delayed due to a medical emergency.

4. Keep a copy of travel insurance in your wallet or purse, and one in your luggage. If your wallet or purse is stolen, you still have your copy of luggage. If your baggage does not appear, you still have your wallet or purse back.

5. E-mail you a copy of proof of travel insurance so you can access them if lost or separated from their luggage. Make sure you use a web based messaging, you can access from home.

Other advice: Travel insurance can cover a loved one transported to a hospital bed – do not be afraid to ask what

Advice for Expats: How to Use Social Media to Stay Conencted

October 6th, 2010 Comments off

Moving overseas demands just as much brainstorming as it does bubble wrapping, and before you touch down in your new destination its best to prepare accordingly.

Those lucky recipients of lucrative expat packages should certainly badger their bosses-to-be for information and advice about just where in the world they’re going. Request to be connected with returned expats who’ve lived to tell the tale, as well as those still successfully surviving overseas.

There’s nothing better than direct information from someone who you share common ground with. What’s more, some companies and corporates have even organized mentoring programs or support groups to aid assignees and their families with the transition.

A leg up and over

For the hard-headed expat – those that are going abroad job or not – and even those moving into a position but without the helping hand of a company or coach, jumping the hurdle of relocation is easier than ever before in light of social media. The dark ages have dropped away and now it’s possible to hit the ground in full stride even before the dust settles on the runway.

While information-dense sites, like Expat Arrivals. com, are fantastic for providing the framework and foundations you’ll need to master the art of relocation, social media is built on the idea of commonality, a cornerstone of approaching your new destination on a personal level.

Sussing out the benefit of social media

User generated content is bombarding the blogosphere, fuelling forums, and of course, driving the pistons of social media powerhouses like Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Wikipedia.

Expats should spend time reading grassroots sites, like Wikis and travel blogs, to learn about the idiosyncrasies and the finer details of their destination to be.

Forums are also prime opportunities to digest information and to start to align your priorities with the realities of your home to be. Don’t be scared to post queries you may have, as silly as they may seem, chances are it’s not an original.

What’s more, traditional resources will rarely be able to provide the same kind of content. Very few formal Internet sites, and even less print publications, will be able to give advice about where to find Corn Flakes in Cape Town, what to wear to a baby shower in Beijing, and how much it costs for a pack of rolling tobacco in Riyadh.

What’s really socially acceptable?

Getting your social calendar sorted before that first Saturday night can often be the best thing an expat can do. Networking prior to putting your feet on new soil is especially important for certain destinations, namely in the Middle East or in non-English speaking nations.

Facebook and LinkedIn boast dedicated expat groups, and those moving abroad can find these virtual organisations through a quick search based on locality. These sites specifically cater to the idea that human connection is based on commonality, and so it’s often that you’ll even find groups within groups; devoted to specific work environments, interests, or to serve a popular purpose in your new country.

Be sure to join, and don’t feel hesitant about contacting the group administrator or other members in regard to concerns you may have. These individuals either created or joined the group under the umbrella of the same motivation, and more often than not, they’re happy to arrange a time to meet when you arrive. Not to mention, these are great spots to find larger expat events and become familiar with what’s hot and what’s not from the comfort of your lounge.

Twitter, an abbreviated blogging site of sort, can also be a cantina of information. Finding a friend or even just a respected resource to answer a simple question is quick and easy. You simple search for a general hash tag – like #expatriate or a more country specific keyword and see what comes up. Send the tweeter a DM (Direct Message) with as many questions as the 140-character limit will allow. (Note that DMs can only be sent to people you follow. ) You can also send a message out into the twitterverse at large; as long as you add those hashtags to your tweet, anyone searching those specific terms will find your request for information.

The social exception

Though social media seems to be the best thing since sliced bread, it’s still important to be wary how you wield your new power. It’s vital that you be mindful of controlling who and what you invite onto your virtual doorstep.

Take care to protect your personal information in the beginning, and for your own safety, if you make the decision to meet face to face with someone bring a third party along or do so in a strictly public setting.

Do your research prior to the event, read about their activities and engagements. Remember also, that reading something online doesn’t make it reliable – it’s important to verify any information you receive.

Social media gets your foot in the door; beyond that, it’s up to you to get out there and live your new life, offline.

Advice On Travel Insurance For Over 65

October 5th, 2010 Comments off

Travel insurance for over 65 years of age men and women is not exactly what many will consider affordable. And the reason for this trend is quite understandable since older people are more susceptible to illnesses and getting injured when in a foreign land than younger men and women. This is why they are made to pay a higher premium. Travel insurance for seniors or people above the age of 65 years of age often provides better benefits and coverage than regular policies. Such policies are designed to cater for the perceived travel needs of the elderly, which includes: medical expenses that involve a 24-hour emergency service, some insurance providers will even offer financial reward for medications. Quite a number of travel insurance for over 65 year-old tourists are designed as one way trip policies, even though there are also annual multi trip policies that meet the need of regular travelers. Notwithstanding, when this kind of policy is contrasted with insurance policies for younger age groups, the insurance policy for younger people is often cheaper. However, if a senior citizen plans to travel more than two times in one year, then that individual should have a multi-trip as this is more cost effective. There is a reasonable amount of insurance companies that offer travel insurance for seniors, although some specialize in over 65 travel insurance. A good example is Insure For All. One good way in getting cheap insurance is by making use of comparison tolls online. Now there are important considerations, which you ought to make before obtaining travel insurance for over 65 year-olds. They are: Is this policy going to cater for any medical emergency situation you find yourself in? Next item is does this policy provide cover for medical bills incurred, while on foreign land. Also, find out the types of ill-health conditions covered by this policy. Last, but not the least, make sure that you are very familiar with this policy document so you are not caught unawares by any part of it in the event of any development. Travel insurance policies for seniors are important and affordable if you can get discounts on the travel itself by going with a group. It is also possible if you are a regular traveler to have obtained ‘frequent flier’ status, which will help with your budget. People who love to travel and are elderly should not jettison travel insurance for over 65 or should I say travel insurance for seniors, but should use all the means available to them to get one that is affordable, dependable and resourceful. eTravelInsuranceForOver65. com has the answers to all the questions that you were afraid to ask about Travel Insurance For Seniors! Travel Insurance, Tips, Advice & Resources for Seniors

October 4th, 2010 Comments off

RIDDLE! What is it?

They spend thousands encouraging us to buy it.

We are advised never to go on holiday without it.

But when we want to buy it, they don’t want to sell it to us.

Read on . . . . . . . . . . .

So after much deliberation we have chosen the holiday destination, sorted out the flights, and already we are picturing ourselves languishing on warm sands with the inviting blue sea stretching before us, and we just have the minor formality of the holiday travel insurance and then all the arrangements will be complete. Did I say MINOR? Well, yes, holiday insurance was once just a minor formality, but now for retired folk or senior citizens it has become a MAJOR, MAJOR problem. (In fact, when talking to friends it appears that holiday insurance has replaced house prices as the after dinner discussion). The problem is not just about how health affects the cost of insurance but it’s about how age affects the cost of insurance. Isn’t it amazing how an insurance company can take your annual holiday insurance payments for years, you have never made a claim, and suddenly because you have just passed a certain birthday you are too risky to consider. Your medical history may be fine, in fact you may be fitter than the 30 year old couch potato on the end of the telephone, but that doesn’t count – the only thing that counts is the date on your birth certificate. And when you do find an insurance company who will cover you, you find that the premium costs more than the holiday.

However, one thing is certain, WE MUST HAVE HOLIDAY TRAVEL INSURANCE (you realize how essential it is when you consider that an air ambulance from the USA will set you back approx £35,000), and another important point is to be honest when declaring your medical history, because Insurance Companies are not charities and will possibly look into your medical history hoping to find some information (however slight you may have considered it at the time it was recorded) to avoid paying for example that air ambulance cost from the USA.

A timely reminder that the E111 was discontinued on 31 December 05 and was replaced by the EHIC (the European Health Insurance Card), which you can obtain from the Post Office or www. dh. gov. uk. It is useful to take this, but it is definitely not a substitute for personal holiday insurance.

And whilst on the subject of European holidays; a couple of years back we met a group of Spanish pensioners having a great time on the Costa del Sol. We found out why it was such a joyous occasion, it came courtesy of the Spanish Government – the Government treats senior citizens to a week’s free holiday. On reflection, it could possibly work out cheaper for the National Health if our senior citizens were sent to warmer climes during the winter when bronchitis and respiratory problems abound. Mr Brown, it’s food for thought. After all, he informs us that in 2008 we shall be receiving free bus travel throughout the country, so perhaps we can but dream that the boundaries be extended somewhat. However, there is still the problem of the necessary holiday travel insurance.

A recent survey found that 9 out of 10 annual travel policies impose an upper age limit. It is slightly easier to obtain single trip policies: but this can work out expensive is you plan to take more than a couple of holidays a year. Here are a few worth contacting, but do shop around as prices vary enormously -

aqaba travel advice, things to do in aqaba, why visit aqaba in jordan

Sea, sand and sun. Water sports, diving, and desert fun. Warm, crystal blue water throughout the year. Luxury five-star hotels, nature campsites: you will find it all here. Aqaba is an experience for old and young. Aqaba is the place to be if you like diving. The coral reefs of the Red Sea are famous for their beauty. These pictures of Red Sea Fish however are taken in the Marine Aquarium, which is much easier: you don’t have to buy an expensive underwater camera and . . . the fish don’t swim away just at the moment you want to take a picture. An employee of the Aquarium told us he thinks the coral reefs are even more beautiful then Petra or Wadi Rum.

But there is more to see. Near the tourist information office you can find this castle. Just around the corner is the city museum.

we at Iran Tour Even if you’re diving in Aqaba and don’t want to see the rest of Jordan (which we can’t imagine), a thing you must see is the beginning of the Desert Highway to Amman. Here you can see lots of burnt-out trucks. The road from Amman to Aqaba is extremely boring, except the last few kilometers. Go and see for yourself.

Whilst visiting Aqaba make your first stop at the Aqaba Tourist Information Centre (TIC) situated at the southern part of Al-Hammamat Al-Tunisyya Street in the centre of town. Without having to go all around to discover what experiences are available in Aqaba and the surrounding areas, our knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming team are on hand to ensure that you get the most of your visit and is able to deal with any enquiries you may have

Pacific Northwest Travel Advice – Camano Island, Washington

Copyright (c) 2009 Matt Moore

In these tough economic times, who wants to waste their time lodging in expensive hotel accommodations where you’re confined to a small room with little privacy and independence of your own. That’s why vacation rentals by owner make so much sense. When you travel, you want to experience a place as it was meant to be. You want to live like you belong there. You want to feel like you’re in control of your own surroundings. Why not stay in a house with a yard, a barbecue, access to the beach, a sports court, your own private hot tub? With a vacation rental by owner you can have essentially everything you could ever want, right in one place, at half the cost.

If you’re looking for a vacation rental by owner, you may not have given much consideration towards a Northwest Puget Sound vacation by the sea. The Seattle area is filled with culture, unique experiences, and you’ll find good people there who have a great appreciation for the environment with good reason; why would anyone ever want to spoil beauty this great? The activities and entertainment possibilities are endless. I highly recommend renting a place by the ocean on Camano Island. It’s only 45 minutes north of Seattle, yet it seems like a world away. It truly is island life at its finest; Washington style. With glistening waters, green surroundings, majestic mountains, and incredible wildlife, you’d be crazy not to see it for yourself. If you really want to convene with nature and invigorate your connection with the great outdoors than Camano Island is for you! Camano Island sits in the rain shadow produced by the Olympic mountain range. It enjoys a drier climate with less rain fall and more sunshine. Driving onto the island coming from Seattle is an experience in itself. One minute you’re driving along in overcast weather surrounded by Evergreen tress, then the next minute the skies clear up and there’re Madronas hanging out over gorgeous seaside cliffs. Scenic overviews of the Puget Sound with the mountains in the distance surround you from all angles. Even the air seems to change; a deep breath in and you’re senses are engulfed with the fresh aroma of the seaside ocean wrapping around you from every direction.

The best way to experience Camano Island is to do a vacation rental by owner. The place I stayed provided all the fixings for a truly great vacation. It sits high above an ocean bay looking out over the water with the Cascade Mountain Range in the distance. Eagles frequently fly through the air and perch in the tops of the trees right before your eyes. I never thought I’d ever end up so close to eagles as they glide with outstretched wings. The way that this wonderful seaside cabin sits, you get some of the most spectacular views on the planet. There is no doubt it’ll leave you breathless.

This particular vacation rental by owner had wonderful charm and character. You’ll find that to be the truth with most vacation rentals by owner, but always be selective in your accommodations in order to find the best places – where you stay makes a big difference. It was decorated with everything you’d expect from a northwest coastal home. From the wood burning stove in the corner, to gorgeous paintings, and wooden interiors; it’s a feeling no lodge or hotel could ever replicate. There’s tons of space as the cabin is deceptively large. There were three stories with a main floor, a loft, and a downstairs with yet two more bedrooms and a games room. All of which have incredible views looking out over the ocean with large expansive windows allowing you to sit for hours on end just taking it in.

With a vacation rental by owner, you have the whole place to yourself too. The freedom and joy you experience being able to unwind uninterruptedly really allows you to get back in touch with yourself. After being far too engulfed in the daily grind that too often consumes us, this is the type of vacation that makes you feel complete again after leaving. I’ve traveled half way across the world, have been to multiple countries, and I’ve stayed in numerous accommodations, yet I’ve never felt quite as connected to my surroundings as I did in this place.

As someone who loves to travel and experience things for myself, I think I’ll always look into vacation rentals by owner. Camano Island in Washington State is probably one of the most overlooked vacation destinations I can think of. I highly suggest you discover it for yourself. You will not be disappointed!

International Travel Advice

October 3rd, 2010 Comments off

A trip abroad has the possibility of offering many exciting adventures and scenery, whether you are going to the beaches of Bermuda or the beaches of Tropical North Queensland it will be fun and different from anything within the states. American visitors are welcome most everywhere in the world, and everyone wants to provide a great experience but each place has it’s own document and shot requirements. If you’re going international for the first time you want to be clear on the facts below.

Be sure to get on the US state department registry as a traveler. This way if anything happens your itinerary is on file and your family will have a way to request help if you’re missing, and the state department can let your family know where you are located.

Make sure that you not only sign your passport but that you fill in the emergency information as well. This will allow authorities to contact your loved ones if you have a problem while traveling. Be sure to leave a clear itinerary with family and friends. This will let them know where you should be when and be sure to keep in touch with at least one person at home throughout your travels. This will alert them if there is a problem.

Make sure your medical insurance will cover you while overseas. If it won’t than be sure to pick up a traveler’s insurance policy to cover your international travel dates. If you have a problem, contact the U. S. Embassy while overseas. They are there to help American’s who are abroad and should be available 24/7 to assist you. Be a careful traveler. Don’t flash a lot of money or jewelry especially when traveling to third world countries, doing so could make you an instant target.

For further information about these and other important travel information for U. S. citizens abroad check out travel. state. gov for all travel and health related issues of happenings in your destination country.
