Most likely your first stop will be trying to look at airfare.  Keep in mind there are two airports that service the Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Vail, and Beaver Creek area.  You have Denver International Airport and Eagle County Airport.  If you will be going to Breckenridge, Keystone, and/or Copper Mountain you should fly into Denver International Airport.  It is usually cheaper to fly into DIA and you will have more rental car and ground transportation options versus flying into Eagle Airport.  You can fly into Eagle County Airport if you will be visiting Vail or Beaver Creek. However, make sure you explore all options first because many times it is cheaper to fly into the Denver Airport rather than Eagle.  Continental, Delta, American, and many more airlines service Eagle County Airport.  All major airlines service Denver International Airport.  Once you have your place tickets bought it’s probably time to get your lodging all squared away.

Lodging is plentiful in Breckenridge is plentiful from high class to resorts to renting a home personally from someone on VRBO or similar sites Breckenridge. You need to start out by narrowing down the type of lodging you are looking for; hotel, lodge, condo, loft, etc.  Then decide where in Breckenridge you would like to stay. You can stay ski in/ski out, up in the mountains, in a nice mountain home, in a nice place in town.  Having a place that is in town is very useful during the winter months as you can easily walk through town and take the Summit Stage up to mountain when it’s time to ski.

Once you know which airport you will be flying into and where you will be staying, you can now work on ground transportation to Breckenridge from Denver or the Eagle Airport.  You can either rent a car or take a shuttle when getting to Breckenridge.  Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, Dollar, and more all have spots at Denver International Airport.  Keep in mind if you will be renting a car you will need to rent one that is capable of making it up the mountains.  Also keep in mind the cost of gas and make sure you have a parking space in Breckenridge.  Parking in Breckenridge is very limited. There is a free bus service provided by the Summit Stage and Powderhound Transportation provides taxi service in Breckenridge.

When looking at a shuttle to Breckenridge you will have multiple options from Colorado Mountain Express to limo companies to Powderhound Transportation.  The two big companies are Colorado Mountain Express and Powderhound Transportation.  CME is owned by Vail resorts, the same people charging you a day to ski, and provides shared shuttle ride to and from Breckenridge.  Keep in mind this is pretty much like Super Shuttle for 3 hours. You have to make tons of stops, etc.   Powderhound Transportation is locally based in Breckenridge Colorado and locally owned.  Powderhound Transportation provides Breckenridge shuttle service.  There are no unwanted stops with Powderhound and you get to choose your own times.   Powderhound Transportation can transfer guests from Denver to Breckenridge.

Now that you know how you’re going to get there and where you will be staying start to look into places to eat, things to do, etc.  There is tons more to Breckenridge than just skiing and snowboarding.  From snowmobiling to sledding to walking around the town Breckenridge is sure to keep your family or group entertained.  Visit Breckenridge Colorado and experience this great mountain town for yourself.

Colorado Fall Leaves Pictures

October 1st, 2010 Comments off

Pictures of Fall leaves are one of the most beautiful landscape photography subject matters.  Within just a month’s time, the landscape of a given Rocky Mountain area can explode into a transformation that is just amazing.  Even a Master painter can’t accurately depict the multitude of gorgeous colors that are on display at a given time.

The time of year that this transformation takes place in Colorado is usually around the middle to the end of September.  The key to finding where and when the best pictures can be taken is in locating where the forests of Aspen trees are.

My love affair with Colorado began about 30 years ago.  At that time I was given an assignment to teach tennis in Keystone Colorado during the summer.  My next assigned location at the end of the summer was to teach in Scottsdale Arizona.  It is still hard to forget the memory I have of a valley in Colorado that I saw on my way down to Arizona as I travelled in my car… The whole valley below the road looked like it was on fire with the glow of the afternoon sun shining through the leaves of a multitude of Aspen trees.   It was at that time that I made a promise to myself that I would certainly come back to Colorado to live here one day.

It took me 30 years to get back here, but now I am “home”!!  I have travelled to other very beautiful places during those 30 years and taken pictures of some amazing sights.  What separates Colorado from any other place I have been is that the seasonal changes go on all year long. Colorado just seems to me to be the best place to capture beautiful landscape photgraphs on a year-round basis.

You might remember the words from a song by John Denver where he sang; ”Fire raining down from the skies”.   I thought he was being a little “mystical” with these words when I first heard that song.  The thing is, after living here now for just a year, I have actually seen this effect occur when rain is coming down from clouds in the distance during a sunset!  Some of the words in his songs also refer to Fall colors.

To capture the best photos of scenery like this, I would suggest having a very good digital camera and a macro-zoom lens. The best source I have found for inexpensive camera equipment is Camera Kings. They stand behind their products and delivery times 100% and have all of the major brands On Sale. The other very good source is Best Buy.

With a little luck, you may be able to capture a picture of snow on Aspen trees.  I was able to get some pictures of this very thing last year around September. If you go to Webshots, you can see some pictures of this there.

Here is a sample picture from my album that you will see:

Keep an eye out for some of my photographs on the web.  I must warn you that you may fall in love with Colorado and make plans to move here some day also.
