Travel Insurance Policies When Travelling To New Zealand

Travel insurance is often neglected when planning a holiday or business trip. In Britain we are used to a free healthcare system and often forget that in many countries this is not the case.      We tend to not realise that luggage can be lost at an airport and that pick-pockets operate in Lisbon as well as London. Most of the time, travel insurance acts as a peace of mind…right up to the time you need it and then it can be the most important article in your suitcase.

Why Do I Need Travel Insurance?

As we are all aware, accidents can happen at any time and in any place to anybody In the worst of circumstances, this can cause significant injury as well as ruining a holiday or business trip. Unfortunately no-one can predict when these accidents will occur or the severity of them when they do. The only thing to do is to have a high quality travel insurance policy. It may feel like you are gambling against yourself when arranging such a policy, however, nothing could be further from the truth.

Luggage can be easily lost at airport, this in normally sufficient to ruin a holiday, having to endure a flight and then to traipse around a shopping centre to buy clean socks and shirts. Travel insurance can’t make this impossible to happen, but can help pay for your new clothes, which will ease the pain a little.

Something as innocent as a wet floor or trip down a flight of stairs could lead to a hospital trip, for example, to administer to a broken wrist or ankle. Medical insurance will usually cover the cost but if you need to return early your travel insurance policy may have a clause to allow this to be claimed for.

When in a foreign country and hiring a car try to know the local traffic laws. We drive on the left in the UK, not too many countries follow suit on this. In New Zealand they drive on the left hand side.   If you cause an accident, personal liability may be an issue. A good travel insurance policy will also have a clause that allows travel back to the UK if a medical emergency arises.

What Should I Look For In Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a safety net when abroad. A good travel insurance policy should cover you for medical and health cover for an injury or sudden illness abroad, 24 hour emergency service and assistance and personal liability cover in case you are sued for causing injury or damaging property.

Other things to consider when purchasing travel insurance are, what is the value of your lost and stolen possessions cover? What’s the maximum you can claim on a single piece of your inventory? Are you covered for cancellation and/or curtailment of your flight or ferry? Does your policy have extra cover for activities that are usually not included standard policies, such as jet skiing or adventure activities? Are there any financial insurances in case your carrier airline becomes bankrupt before or during your excursion abroad?

Socio-political Issues

New Zealand is an extremely beautiful country. There is a low threat from terrorism and affords the chance to relax away from the high level of vigilance practised in the UK.

There is recorded cases of petty crime, this is mostly pick-pocketing or taking goods from parked cars. Travel insurance is able to cover these loses, although with the application of common sense, they should be avoidable.

Visitors from the UK are able to use the medical centres in New Zealand due to a mutual agreement between the governments of the UK and New Zealand. There are some conditions attached but for the majority there is no problems encountered.

As mentioned previously, in New Zealand the rule of the road is drive on the left. Motor insurance, however, is not a legal requirement in New Zealand. Therefore, even though the UK has a reciprocal Healthcare Agreement with New Zealand, private accident insurance is recommended. This is because New Zealand law has removed the right of the accident victims to sue a third party in the event of an accident. Instead of the claim, the Accident Compensation Commission (ACC) helps pay for your care if you are injured as the result of an accident. However, the ACC only covers the cost of treatment in New Zealand and unfortunately delayed travel or loss of income in a third country is not covered.

Specific Insurances

There are magnificent beaches and these offer the usual range of beach activities; surfing, SCUBA diving, paragliding etc. Please make sure that your travel insurance policy covers water sport activities before attempting these activities. Care must be taken however at beach destinations. Crime rates are lower than in the UK, it is advisable to not leave articles alone on a beach however. Travel insurance will replace lost goods and monies but it’s better to have not had them stolen.

There are many adrenaline fuelled activities to be sampled. These include bungee-jumping, water boarding, white water rafting, climbing and caving. It is strongly recommended that your travel insurance covers adventure sports before embarking on such an adventure. Remember, if you have an accident in an activity not covered by your travel insurance, you cannot make a claim.

Should you choose to take a helicopter or private plane tour, check that it is a licensed company with adequate insurance. Often your baggage and belongings are carried on at your own risk. If this is the case, then only take what you cannot afford to be without, such as travel sickness pills or asthma inhalers.

Note that even if the Mexicans speak Spanish, you can listen in English. Be very cautious about business or other personal information, especially regarding financial details. Do not change large sums of money and keep a grip on handbags and wallets at all times.

Consider the people who present themselves as police officers who tried to fine or imprisonment for no apparent reason. There have been several instances of visitors becoming victims of theft, extortion or sexual assault by persons who may or may not be police officers. If in doubt, ask the prospect of identification (I can see, I Please Have ID?) Si note name of any staff, the badge number and patrol number

The hurricane season in Mexico runes from June to November. During these months of control of local media. Travel insurance can provide emergency flights after a hurricane, and of course health insurance is almost mandatory. Do You Need Travel Insurance Even if You Already Have Other Policies?

October 17th, 2010 Comments off

With the decision to indulge in a vacation comes the attitude of looking forward to the best events and not the disasters that could occur. Travel insurance will be suggested as plans begin to take shape and you will have to face these undesirable risks.

What if you’re stuck in traffic on the way to the airport and miss your charter flight? How would you manage if your spouse suffers a heart attack in a foreign country? What are the chances that you will be injured or even die on vacation?

Whenever possible, a vacationer would evade queries like these. Terrorism is the reason behind the growing interest of people when it comes to traveler security. People who are afraid will generally buy travel insurance. On the other hand, you should not immediately purchase any policy without considering the possibility that you may not actually need one.

For most people who only travel once in a while, it is better to be safe than sorry, and so they amass numerous travel insurance policies. The only thing you could gain from a search of various coverage plans, considering the huge variety, is an empty wallet. No evidence can support the claim that people on vacation are more likely to be injured or face death. Do not expect the National Safety Council (NSC) or National Center for Health Statistics to have any data on this.

We keep records on the number of injuries and deaths that occur in the home, workplace, in motor vehicles or in public places, but there’s no way to tell if the victims are on vacation. Then again, a traveler becomes less impervious to diseases. From stomach disorders in Mexico to malaria in Kenya, you increase your risk abroad. More value may be given to insurance as a result. Evidently, traveling to various countries involve the risks for various diseases. Take Nigeria for example, there could be an outbreak as compared to the situation in London.

Wherever you go, do not get travel insurance unless you have thought about these things. Assess if your health insurance policy comes with medical or accident insurance. More often than not, personal health insurance plans will pay for any medical services you avail of when you travel. Check your policy for specifics. Make sure to pack some claim forms along.

It is possible not to have another option but to pay the full amount when you need medical treatment abroad. On the spot medical bill payments and legal aid can be provided by a policy designed especially for emergency services. Only purchase a plan like this when necessary as the premiums may not be worth it.

Always consider the amount of coverage and the extent of services provided by travel insurance policies. If you were treated for an illness two months before your trip and the condition flares up on vacation, will you be covered? If you belong to a health maintenance organization (HMO), and an emergency occurs on your trip, you can go to the nearest health care provider and you’ll be covered. Outside the United States, Medicare bound patients may encounter limited services when they are in Mexico or Canada.

When it comes to flight insurance, this simply pertains to coverage for injuries and death when aboard an aircraft. This is a form of coverage not purchased in advance. Passengers are deceived. For $7, you will receive two hours if insurance worth $100,000. For a proper life insurance plan that covers heart attacks at home, why is it still necessary to have this for a two hour trip?

Is it sensible enough? Two hour car rides can run smoothly with an existing policy. Even if $7 does not seem steep, adding the costs for every hour or so can do some damage. Cases of injury or death are usually covered free of charge when a person uses a credit card to buy tickets.

Comparing Travel Insurance Policies Online

October 4th, 2010 Comments off

You have decided that you are going to purchase a travel insurance policy online for your next holiday. Congratulations! You have joined the league of smart travellers with your decision. Buying travel insurance is the best way for you to protect the monetary value as well as the time element you will invest on this holiday. The time you spend online reading and comparing travel insurance policies in order to decide which one is right for you is truly time well spent. No two travel insurance policies are the same, and the type you choose can vary, depending on what you are planning to do on your holiday. Do you travel several times over the course of a year, on business as well as on holiday? You would want to look online for a multi-trip travel insurance policy. This type of insurance would protect you for 12 months, no matter how many trips you took. Multi-trip insurance will save you money compared to the cost of taking out a separate policy every time you travel. Perhaps you only travel once a year. In that case, a standard travel policy would serve you well. Let’s say you are planning a wonderful skiing holiday. While you are comparing policies online, you’ll want to look at insurance companies that are able to offer coverage for expenses that are related to snow skiing. Just in case you have an accident on the slopes, you will want to make sure your travel insurance policy has medical coverage for skiers. A big medical bill after taking a tumble could very well spoil your entire holiday! Of course, you also will want coverage in case something unforseen happens and your trip is cancelled or you crash into someone on the slopes and they decide to sue you. Hopefully, you will not have to make a claim for any of these reasons, but it will be a comfort knowing that you are protected. When going on holiday with your family, it’s a good idea to plan ahead, and a good travel insurance policy can help you to do just that. What if your trip is interrupted because your flight was cancelled, and the next flight to your destination isn’t until the next day? You and your partner and children will need to have a hotel room for the night as well as a taxi to reach that hotel. Choose a travel insurance policy that will cover a reimbursement of the amount you had to spend for these items. Once you have determined the type of travel insurance policy that would best suit your needs, it’s time to start looking around online. On most travel insurance sites, you will simply fill out a form with some information such as how many people are travelling, their ages, the dates of travel, travel destination, and the length of your trip. This information is needed to give you an instant travel insurance quote on a policy. Don’t make the mistake of allowing price to be your guide when doing your policy comparisons. Cheaper isn’t always better! You want insurance that will protect you and give you peace of mind, not a cheap policy that you have a world of trouble out of when attempting to file a claim. Make sure to read the fine print in the Product Disclosure Statementfor any travel insurance policy you are thinking about purchasing. You need to understand exactly what is and what isn’t covered. Taking the time to read the details can make comparing travel insurance policies online much easier for you, and you won’t have any unpleasant surprises in case you do need to make a claim.

Waivers are Not Travel Insurance Policies

October 4th, 2010 Comments off

How important can travel insurance be to any particular person? When trouble ensues when a person travels a solid coverage plan can ensure that adequate settlements can be received. Traveling leads to an investment and every person should always protect their investments should something go wrong and this is where insurance plays a vital role. When you would like to get more information on travel insurance check out this site.

Good travel insurance protects you if you fall ill or your spouse dies and you cannot make the trip, if your home burns or you get called for jury duty. No claims can be made to an insurance company when trips are cancelled on impulsive changes of heart. Delays are common in traveling and so coverage plans can pay for the additional costs that people may encounter because of these.   The bad thing about these coverage plans is the expensive premium.

The usual price for travel coverage is about six dollars per hundred dollars spent traveling. For a $1,500 two week trip, a $109 policy will buy full coverage in the event the trip is cancelled, $2,500 in medical coverage for lost baggage or documents, but this probably would only cover the phone calls.   Trip insurance is valuable both cost wise and safety wise. Insurance can resolve problems that can arise with trip default. There is always the possibility of cruise lines or airlines failing to meet the demand of travelers. To get a closer look on cheap travel insurance visit this site.

One cannot really say if a certain air or cruise line will always retain the ability to take travelers to where they will need to go. A victim of a cancelled cruise says that there is virtually no protection for consumers. There are still instances where people can fall victims to flight or trip cancellations. When a client files a suit against a travel agent the case usually ends up in federal court.   When a person travels it is always a good option to choose to avail of a coverage plan. Agents sometimes take foretelling the future seriously. Unlike barbers, bakers or schools,

they do not need a license or pass exams.   The article will be focusing on a single kind of insurance and that pertaining to travel. This is not about a policy that can be bought over the counter in a mall and will get relatives a huge check should the traveler die. Should people even consider this when traveling?  Unlike other policies travel coverage is bought per hour. The year 1994 was not a good one for flying where a number of planes crashed out of the millions that flew. Rental waivers can never be in line with travel insurance coverage.

When people rent a vehicle the waiver serves as the formal agreement that damages to the car will not be charged to the renter. There are times when trips end up not pushing through and so people can buy waivers on cruise lines protecting them from such occasions. There is no replacement for travel insurance.   Regardless of the reasons behind companies closing down good travel insurance should cover all the costs for the traveler. Look at the small type for this one, and do not presume that bankruptcy means anything more than it says. When companies close down travelers can get their money back faster with a travel insurance policy.

Any claims can easily be settled when complete documents are presented by the traveler. Travel insurance coverage has changed with time as seen through the years. Cancellation costs are settled but not when trips are cancelled due to illness by people who are sick at the time of their application for coverage.   The insurance companies are dealing with excuses and claims that are in no way viable for settlements. Depending on the company, the deadline ranges from 24 hours to seven days after the initial deposit has been paid. There is a chance of getting travel insurance over the phone or from the cruise line offering the trip.   Default will always result to useless policies when these are bought. Third parties are the best option to get insurance. When availing of a coverage plan deal with a travel agency.

Does your policy have extra cover for activities that are usually not included standard policies, such as jet skiing or adventure activities? Are there any financial insurances in case your carrier airline becomes bankrupt before or during your excursion abroad?

Socio-political Issues

The birthplace of Abrahamic religion is sadly not a safe place. There are many terrorist groups present in Israel. The ongoing feud with the Palestine’s has become a military conflict with indiscriminate attacks from both sides of the Gaza strip. The current recommendation from the UK government is to not travel to certain areas within Israel. This is advice to be listened to and heeded. A full list can be found on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website.

You are advised to maintain a high level of vigilance when travelling anywhere in Jerusalem. Political demonstrations have the potential to turn violent. For specific information about planned demonstrations or any other events which can alter the local security situation, you should register with the Consulate General in Jerusalem.

The main types of incidents involving British National in 2008 were lost and stolen passports; arrests or detentions and assisting those who encountered security problems difficulties at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. It is essential that travel insurance is purchased to offer some protection should your valuables be lost or stolen at an airport of hotel.

Within the markets and bazaars, pick-pocketing is rife. Care should be taken to protect any money or documentation within them. Travel insurance will cover stolen items although its better to not be stolen from than to be a victim of theft.

It is recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. Many policies do not cover you if your claim is the result of terrorism, therefore ascertain whether you would be covered before departing. You should, of course, check that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake. Hospital care is sadly not free and can be very expensive. An emergency medical flight policy is recommended as quality of care in Israel differs from hospital to hospital.

Specific Insurances

Firstly you must have a policy that covers you for terrorist attacks. This is currently a very real possibility in any area of Israel. Also find out the geographical boundaries of your travel insurance cover. Many travel insurance policies become void if Government advice is rejected.

For all the political and religious difficulties in Israel, it is still a fascinating country. Aside from the religious history stretching back over millenia, there is a wealth of other attractions. There are many nature reserves to explore and organised excursions into the Negev desert. Travel insurance is heavily recommended here to provide assistance if you run into difficulties. A lost wallet in a desert is the last thing you’ll want to happen, but it is easily remedied.

The Dead sea is also found here giving the option to float in the mineral rich waters before visiting one of the many spa’s located nearby. Sadly there are reports of bags being stolen therefore travel insurance is to be desired before leaving baggage unattended at a spa or beach.

Travel Insurance Policies When Travelling in America

Travel insurance is a lot like a good thick jumper when abroad, you hope you wont need to use it, but if you do, your glad you brought it. Most of the time, travel insurance acts as a peace of mind. . . right up to the time you need it and then it can be the most important article in your suitcase.

Something as innocent as a wet floor or trip down a flight of stairs could lead to a hospital trip, for example, to administer to a broken wrist or ankle. Possessions can be lost or stolen, and if you cause an accident, personal liability may be an issue.

For the majority of tourist area’s, America is a safe place to visit. There will sadly be the threat from pick-pockets however, so keep any money or important documentation in a zipped or fastened pocket. Should your wallet or purse be stolen, your travel insurance will be able to cover the losses if it’s included in your travel insurance policy.

There is also a large amount of muggings and car-jackings in certain areas of North America. This tends to occur in less affluent areas at night, so applying common sense in some areas is advised. Most travel insurance covers personal liability concerning loss of hire vehicles and victims of criminal loss of passports and money are able to consult with the British consulate for replacement passports and help getting back to the UK.

Medical care in the USA is primarily private. In effect, you will have to pay for all treatment costs, travel insurance will usually help cover the cost, but full medical insurance is advised also.

America has a substantial risk of terrorist attacks. Currently the department for homeland security assesses incoming international and domestic flights as orange. In high profile public places it is recommended that you maintain a high level of vigilance. Travel insurance will help you return to the UK although it will be delayed during the inevitable investigations following an attack.

Natural disasters are more frequent in the USA than in the UK. Therefore it is a good idea to learn what events can occur in the areas you are staying in. Earthquakes, Hurricanes, forest fires and blizzards all occur within the USA. These disasters may close airports and roads making travel extremely hazardous and effectively stranding you in a foreign country.

Specific Insurances In America

North America has a vast array of activities to pursue. It takes in perhaps the broadest range of climates and environments in the Western world. There is any number of beach sports available on either coast, skiing in the Northern states and everything in between. Due to this wide variety of activities it is important that any activities you are planning on taking part in are covered by your travel insurance policy. This can be water sports, adventure policies or adrenaline policies for example. It all depends on which activities you are planning on taking part in.

Be prepared to use common sense again though, if using equipment such as jet ski’s or scuba gear, check that it is in a state of good quality and that any instructors are fully qualified. Sadly there is no real uniform code of laws governing the United States of America. The laws differ from state to state as do the penalties incurred. Generally speaking, the legal age for alcohol consumption is 21 years old, and driving is normally 16 years old with a valid permit.

The limits for drink driving are lower than in the UK, and penalties are much stricter for this and other road offences. Travel insurance will normally cover you for accidents to other persons, called personal liability. This often will include third party insurance for hire cars, although this will not be considered to be car insurance if stopped by the police.

In Canada they drive on the right hand side.   If you cause an accident, personal liability may be an issue. A good travel insurance policy will also have a clause that allows travel back to the UK if a medical emergency arises.

Travel insurance will help you return to the UK, if terrorist attacks are covered by your policy, although it will be delayed during the inevitable investigations following an attack.

Natural disasters do occur in Canada, though they are widely known about and are normally weather based. Heavy snow can close rural roads and occasionally free ways during the winter months. Luckily Canada is much more used to snowfall than the UK and can quickly clear roads and maintain its internal networks. Earthquakes do occur on the Canadian West coast and unlike weather based environmental events there is often little warning.

Specific Insurances

Canada has an array of activities to pursue. There is any number of winter sports available on either coast, skiing, snowboarding, bob sledging and the luge.   There are fantastic natural attractions such as Niagara falls and the mountain ranges in Banff and Jasper. Due to the wide variety of activities it’s possible to undertake, it is important that any activities you are planning on taking part in are covered by your travel insurance policy. Be prepared to use common sense again though, if using equipment such as ski’s or snowboarding, check that it is in a state of good repair and that any instructors or guides are fully qualified.

Are there any financial insurances in case your carrier airline becomes bankrupt before or during your excursion abroad?

Socio-political Issues

Full travel and medical insurance is highly recommended when travelling through Mexico. Although it is a beautiful country, the risk of theft and injury are significantly high. Mexico is currently a swine influenza hotspot and travel to there is not recommended by the UK or Mexican government. The UK government will not organise emergency flight to British nationals in the event of a influenza pandemic. Travel insurance that covers emergency flights back to the UK, are the only viable option apart from meeting the cost of a flight back yourself.

Mexico has a voracious political side. Demonstrations can become violent very quickly and escalate into a gigantic brawl. The laws for demonstrators in Mexico are very simple, if you are a foreigner you are not allowed to be a part of a demonstration. The penalty for being part of a demonstration can be as severe as deportation or detention.

Crime levels are particularly high in Mexico, especially the capital city, Mexico City. Pick-pocketing is rife, with passports being stolen over 140 times last year alone. Although it is required to carry identity documentation in Mexico, it is recommended to carry a photocopy of the relevant pages rather than the passport itself.

Be aware that although Mexicans speak Spanish, they can listen in English. Therefore be very wary discussing business or personal information, particularly in regards financial details. Do not change large sums of money and maintain a grip on purses and wallets at all times.

Be aware of persons presenting themselves as police officers attempting to fine or arrest you for no apparent reason. There have been several instances of visitors becoming victims of theft, extortion or sexual assault by persons who may or may not be police officers. When in doubt, ask to view identification ( Puedo ver yo alguna identificación por favor?) and if possible note the officer’s name, badge number, and patrol car number.

The hurricane season in Mexico runes from June to November. During these months check the local media for information. Travel insurance can provide emergency flights following a hurricane and of course medical insurance is nearly compulsory. There are two active volcanoes in Mexico near Popocatepetl and Colima, they are both closed to the public. There are danger zones around both, the size of which can change depending on the current level of volcanic activity. Naturally earthquakes are also possible here and in the Guerrero region. Travel insurance can be useful should this happen, allowing emergency flights home.

Specific Insurance For Travellers In Mexico

Mexico has many wonders to see and do. Mexico is one of the best places in the world for surfing, scuba diving, body boarding and fishing.   There is the second largest coral reef in the world near the Yucatan peninsula. Both SCUBA and snorkelling divers are surrounded by species not found anywhere else on Earth. Should you choose to dive, it is recommended to have water sports included on your travel insurance policy and a working knowledge of the equipment you are going to use.

While any time in Mexico is filled with sun, there are also plenty of things to visit away from the beach as well. There are archaeological sites to see such as Chichen Itza, a Mayan ruin paradise.   Travel insurance can provide support should an accident happen whilst visiting an archaeologist dream. Mexico is six hours behind the UK, so 24 hour emergency service and assistance is very desirable in a travel insurance policy.

A good travel insurance policy will also have a clause that allows travel back to the UK if a medical emergency arises.

What Should I Look For In Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a safety net when abroad. EHIC Cover In Greece

If you’re going on a holiday or a business trip, you should apply for a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which offers you access to reduced-cost medical treatment. EHIC cards are free to any resident of the UK, UK National, a refuge resident, or from part of an EEA state (Country or state within the European Economic Area, i. e. the European Union). Simply collect an EHIC (formally E111) form from your local post office. Complete the short form and return to the post office and await postal delivery of your EHIC card.

This will allow you reduced or free medical cover in any of the EEA states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. As Greece is part of the EEA, the EHIC card extends to cover the country. An EHIC card grants the bearer the full rights of a national citizen of the country they are in as long as they support the EHIC scheme. It does not give the bearer the same medical cover as they would receive on the NHS. An EHIC card is not regarded as either medical or travel insurance

Socio-political Issues

There is a low risk from anarchist terrorists in Greece. These attacks are not aimed at tourists or British nationals, however, its possible to be caught up in such an attack. For this reason comprehensive medical and travel insurance is advised

There is a low crime rate in Greece although it does rise during the traditional tourist season. Travel insurance can cover the cost of any stolen items or belongings.

There have been isolated incidents of attacks on British nationals at several Greek tourist hotels. These are normally carried out by other British nationals usually in an inebriated state. Therefore the same level of care should be taken in these environments as back in the UK.

Specific Insurances For Greece

Greece is a staggeringly beautiful country. Steeped in history and culture, stretching back through the mists of time. Evidence of it’s glorious past are still evident in such attractions as the Acropolis, Parthenon and the palace of Knossus.

There are stunning beaches with every conceivable beach and water sports available. If you are planning to take part in any of these activities it is important to confirm that your travel insurance policy covers these events.

There are also many adventure holidays available both on the mainland and surrounding islands. These include bungee-jumping, caving, mountaineering and off road excursions. Ensure that your travel insurance policy covers these adrenaline packed activities before beginning them.

Greece suffered with strike action at the end of 2008 and this may continue throughout 2009. This affected many arena’s of both public and private sector professions. It is possible that airports will be closed, either prior to leaving or returning to the UK. Travel insurance will cover cancellation or curtailment of your Grecian adventure should this come to pass.

Travel Insurance will smooth over almost all problems in Greece. However some incidents require more help, therefore the British Consulate contact details are found below:

Socio-political Issues

South Africa is such a divided country that information becomes very fragmented. In the busy tourist areas, there is a relative safety, although be highly vigilant. Tourists have been followed from airports and then hi-jacked and mugged, often at gunpoint. It is considered prudent to have a photocopy of your passport in the event of yours being stolen or lost. There is a high crime rate in the townships surrounding the larger cities, although for tourist areas there is a dedicated tourist police force.

If you mugged or car jacked, do not make eye contact or offer any kind of resistance. Hand over whatever they wish to take. After they have left, phone the police and report it. After this contact your travel insurance provider and explain the situation, they will do their best to offer assistance.   Goods, baggage, money and belonging can all be replaced.

There is some nationalistic tension between South Africans and neighbouring Zimbabwe. If the mood starts to turn a little ugly at public gatherings, discreetly, but speedily, leave. Riots are bad enough, but handguns are very common in South Africa.

South Africa can at times have heavy storms. These can wash away some roads and cause confusion to the infrastructure.   Use common sense to get to your airport to return home. If the weather forecasters are predicting a major storm, leave for the airport before the weather becomes too severe.

Specific Insurances In South Africa

South Africa has many wonderful areas of outstanding natural beauty. From the shores at Durban, to the peak of Table mountain, to the Kruger Wildlife park, there is an awful lot to see and do in South Africa.

It is important to have full medical and travel insurance when in South Africa. Emergency repatriation flights are not to be forgotten when choosing a travel insurance policy. The medical care is of a high standard, however waiting lists can be long and treatment is expensive.

It is important when selecting your travel insurance policy to factor in which activities you are choosing to do. If visiting Durban, its fair to assume you’ll be visiting the wonderful beaches. If so include water sports in your policy. This covers you for all most all beach and ocean sports and explorations.

If you are visiting the Limpopo region the Kruger national park is a major attraction so factor in the policy adjustments you are likely to require. Travel insurance policies can be a wide as the horizon across the Polokwane game reserve, so why restrict your activities due to lack of travel insurance cover.

Travel Insurance Policies That Are Commonly Needed

September 30th, 2010 Comments off

Travel insurance and trip cancellation insurance are often used by businessmen to cover for the costs and the losses they incur if the travel could not take place as per schedule. As every other risk that a business is exposed to, not being able to travel for a particular meeting with a client due to bad weather, unavailability of flight or medical condition, is an equal risk which is why travel insurance is such a key part of the business budget and makes the costs more predictable and accountable compared to the accidental loss.

Travel insurance policies include a variety of benefits for the claimants depending on what they need and what they are paranoid of.

Trip cancellation insurance

Travel insurance often includes coverage for losses incurred by cancellation of the trip. The coverage usually includes such unforeseen events as emergency medical treatment, emergency medical evacuation, baggage and travel delays and other factors that forced you to cancel your plans affecting your purpose. Lost or stolen baggage coverage, travel assistance services during emergencies etc. will help you feel less anxious about the trip and the unfortunate events that could hamper the covered trip.

Sky Rescue

This feature in travel insurance usually covers medical evacuation coverage and could be purchased for oneself or for family.

Adventurous activities

If you are one of those people who not only love travelling but also likes to take part in many adventure activities like skiing, parasailing, bungee jumping and other athletic activities that could prove dangerous then you need to incorporate an extra clause in your travel insurance for coverage of adventure activities which will take care of medical costs for injuries sustained during such adventure.

Group insurance

This is a more economical way of protecting yourself on your trips. If more than a few people are going on the same trip with the same itinerary, then it is very much economical and also prudent to go for a group insurance which covers medical costs, adventure activities and trip cancellation costs for everyone who is part of the group.

This will cost you less compared to the individual travel insurance. It could happen often that one member of a travelling group is left behind or the trip is cancelled and all of them are missing their own plans.

Similarly, one could insure his or her family on the trip which will cover for their medical costs too with a coverage as high as 8,000,000 dollars on select premium policies. These kinds of policies are also available to those tourists who are visiting a country as part of the cultural exchange program of individuals travelling abroad. This is similar to the policies and coverage features available for students’ part of the exchange programs.

There are many benefits of international travel insurance that one can only realize on hindsight. Incurring a large loss because of unforeseen events on which you had no control is a risky thing compared to incorporating a small cost of playing safe and keeping everything under your budget through travel insurance.
