City of traveling with children

Travel with children City

When friends and family call me crazy to travel with my baby and preschooler to cities like Chicago, New York and Toronto, which just laugh. My children eat picnic treats while watching the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Millennium Park, climbed the monkey bars in the shadow of the arch in Washington Square Park and looked out the glass observation deck floor of the tower NC. It was not always easy to navigate through the city streets with two small hills, it was well worth it. I had a fantastic time and I realized that the way they talked about traveling for months after my kids had a great time too.

The city is full of fun and educational activities for children. The skyscrapers of world-class museums, children can see and experience things that simply do not exist in small towns. Despite the travel city with small children can be challenging, with careful planning and attention to detail that everyone can have a good time. Here are some tips to help your trip goes well:.

Take a stroller Although it’s been awhile since your child has used a stroller, be glad you. City tours tend to involve a lot of walking from one place to another and a small can tire easily. With a stroller that can travel in comfort and not worry about losing it in a crowd. I found the strollers good work much better than large, heavy carts full of food trays and cup holders. Umbrella strollers are often smaller and lighter, making them more convenient for the stairs down or armed and on the /> Make frequent stops in the yard. The best part of visiting a city may be just walking around, jumping in unusual shops, people watch and enjoy the energy of the city. Remember that while your baby or preschool child can be very patient, which has its limits. I have found to stop playing for a few minutes before the courts that take place in a great way for young people to work part of their energy. They also like the novelty of playing on different teams of the same material found in the former home of new parks.

Bring a duffel bag of wipes. Even if you are not a germ nazi, you’ll be glad you did. The courses of the city, railings and benches can be very dirty, but after cleaning with a soft little hands you will feel more comfortable leaving his excavations at a hot dog from a vendor Street tasty.

carefully selected restaurants. If you eat in a nice restaurant sitting, make sure it is strong enough to absorb the chatter of her son. I learned that one the hard way when, tired from a long trip, we decided to eat at our hotel in Chicago is in the restaurant, the kind of place with a calm and hovering servers in white gloves. Of course, my two year old decided to sing “Tiny spider” over and over again. We ended up with food sent to our room. The next night, we chose a popular restaurant, lively Italian, where little was stronger than anyone else in the place.

plan activities for children. The big cities offer all kinds of interesting and educational activities for children of all ages. Do a little research online and guidelines ahead of time to find some old views appropriate for your child. For over twenty years since I attended any of these activities yourself? You can enjoy only the skeleton of Tyrannosaurus rex in the Natural History Museum and the observation of polar bears in the water slide at the zoo.

business plan for adults. Destinations such as art museums might still be on the agenda, but keep in mind the limitations of your child and be prepared to reduce the trip if necessary. Try to participate in the art museum. Ask questions like: “?? What you see in this picture you see a boat What image do you like most in this room” Visit one of the children at the museum can be and ask the office of information presented for kids Greatest Hits.

Take the bus or subway. Public transport is an adventure for a small town boy. After the trip is completed, will talk as long as the dinosaur bones. Try to avoid traveling during peak hours, however, when the sardine can atmosphere can be overwhelming for a small.

Travel Insurance Policies When Travel to Israel

Travel insurance is often overlooked when planning a vacation or business. In Britain we are used to a system of free medical care and often forget that in many countries this is not true. We tend not to realize that your luggage is lost in an airport and pickpockets operating in Lisbon and London. In most cases, acts of travel insurance peace of mind … until you need it, then it may be the most important in her suitcase.

Why do I need travel insurance?

As we all know, accidents can happen anytime, anywhere to anyone in the worst case, this can cause significant damage and ruin a vacation or business. Unfortunately, nobody can predict when these accidents occur or the severity of them when they do. All you need is an assurance of quality travel. It may feel like you’re playing against himself as the organization of this policy, however, nothing could be further from the truth.

can be easily lost luggage at the airport, it is usually enough to ruin a vacation, having to endure a flight, then walking around a mall to buy socks and white shirts. Travel insurance can not make this impossible to happen, but it can help pay for new clothes, which will ease the pain a little.

Something as innocent as moist soil or travel down a flight of stairs that lead to a hospital trip, for example, to handle a broken wrist or ankle. Health insurance usually covers the cost, but if you must return to the top of their travel insurance policy may have a clause allowing it to be claimed.

When in a foreign country and rent a car is to know the local traffic laws. We turn to the left in the United Kingdom, Israel is headed by the law can be confusing for the first few days. If you cause an accident, personal liability may be a problem. A good travel insurance will also have a clause that allows travel in the UK if there is a medical emergency.

What should I look for travel insurance

Travel insurance is a safety net abroad. Travel insurance in case of good coverage for medical and health coverage for an injury or sudden illness abroad, 24 emergency service time and attendance and personal liability cover in case you’re defending cause injury or damage.

Other factors to consider when buying travel insurance is, what is the value of the presentation of property lost or stolen? What is the maximum you can claim a piece of your inventory? Are you covered for cancellation and / or reduction of your flight or ferry? Your policy extra cover for activities not usually include standard policies, such as jet skiing and adventure? Is it financial security in case of failure of your airline before or during your trip abroad?

socio-political

The cradle of the religion of Abraham is unfortunately not a safe place. There are many terrorist groups present in Israel. The ongoing dispute with Palestine has become a military conflict with indiscriminate attacks against both sides of the Gaza Strip. The current recommendation of the British government not to travel to certain areas in Israel. Here is a trick to be heard and listened. The complete list can be found on the site and Foreign Commonwealth Office.

It is advisable to maintain a high level of vigilance when traveling anywhere in Jerusalem. Political demonstrations have the potential to turn violent. For specific information about planned demonstrations or any other event which could alter the local security situation, which must register with the Consulate General in Jerusalem.

The main types of incidents involving British National in 2008 were lost and stolen passports, arrests and detentions and to help those who encountered security problems problems at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv. It is essential that you purchase travel insurance to provide some protection in case their value is lost or stolen at an airport hotel.

Among the markets and bazaars, the flight is commonplace. Precautions must be taken to protect the money or documentation inside. Travel insurance covers stolen, but it is better not to be stolen from the victim of a robbery.

It is recommended that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before traveling. Many policies will not cover you if your request is the result of terrorism, therefore, is whether they would be covered before you go. You must, of course, make sure your policy covers all the activities you want to perform. Hospital care is free and can unfortunately not be very expensive. A policy of flight medical emergencies is recommended that the quality of care in Israel is different from one hospital to another.

You must first have a policy that covers terrorist attacks. It is now a real possibility in an area of Israel. See also the boundaries of your travel insurance cover. Many travel insurance policies are void if the Government’s view is rejected.

For all the political and religious in Israel, remains a fascinating country. Apart from the religious history that dates back over thousands of years, there are many other attractions. There are many nature reserves to explore and tours in the Negev desert. Travel insurance is strongly recommended here to provide assistance if you encounter difficulties. A wallet lost in a desert is the last thing you want to happen, but is easily corrected.

Traveling with Teens: The five best tips for peaceful family holidays

Traveling with Teens: Five tips for a relaxing family vacation
Understanding Adolescents

can be difficult, especially when planning a vacation. Your teen will probably want to stay at home rather than a family vacation, and even if you’re lucky enough to have an adult son who enjoys spending time with you, he or she can be moody, easily embarrassed and sometimes uncooperative. Do not worry – you do not do anything wrong as a parent! Vacation with your teenager can be tough, but in the end, the effort is worth it to make lasting memories together. That said, I do not want to spend time fighting it. Here are five tips for planning and enjoying a relaxing holiday with the family as well:

Tip # 1: It serves the interests of their teens – L one of several parts of planning a vacation, if you have children of all ages is to find activities that everyone can enjoy. First, you must ensure that young children are not bored and angry outbursts. On the other hand, if you want to avoid discussions, it is important to respond to your teens about their interests. Fortunately, there is often a series of activities in any type of vacation that allows children and adults for fun. More specifically, however, are not only find activities for teenagers. Look for places where you can go that specifically interest your child. For example, if your child loves music, through a record store or memorabilia vintage music store. If your child likes water sports, arrange for water skiing or sailing. Even if your child tries to find apathetic to organize interesting activities, he or she will

entertainment Tip # 2:. Respect the space and give your child some time alone – vacation can be a challenge to live so close to everyone in your family. Teens need all the space, and holidays, usually not much privacy. See how you can give your child some time alone, without ruining the holidays for everyone. One idea is to allow your child to stay in an adjoining room (with door open) or your own tent if you camp. You can also invite a friend of your child on holiday with his family. In this way, can do some activities on their own, but always use the buddy system for safety reasons

Tip # 3:. Involve your child in planning – While some teens are not interested at all, many young adults are much more willing to cooperate if they do some holiday decisions. You might be surprised by the activities that your child really wants to deal with what was expected. Maybe your child really wants to go to the zoo, or maybe your child prefers to spend time in an amusement park. Be prepared to be amazed! Sure, you may not allow your child the freedom to complete the vacation planning, but it is a good way to get him on board. As a bonus, it helps young people learn about the preparations and budget travel

Tip # 4: Give your child choices – More In Beyond planning, try it. Options allow adolescent daily during the holidays. Saying: “What are you,” can be dangerous because your child may want to engage young children in her family can not enjoy (or, worse yet, your answer may be “nothing”). So instead, just with two options and let your child decide between them (for example, “would you go shopping or spend time at the beach?”). Teenagers like to know that your opinion matters – and are more likely to benefit when they had a hand in making decisions

Council

#. 5: Choose your battles – Finally, choose your battles. Remember, you are vacation. Instead of fighting for everything, try to relax a little and only discuss things that really matter, as the daughter of skimpy swimsuits will take, instead of things that are not significant, and the fact that she brought a cell phone to text friends during the holidays. If there is a major problem, it is sometimes better to think that the calm and face the situation where the party is over. No sense ruin a day of fun for the whole family because of a dispute between you and your teen.

general, may not be able to stop any disagreements occur, but it can lessen the blows a bit after more than five points. No matter where you live or whether you are traveling on vacation, some teens will be a challenge, but that does not mean you should skip the family vacation fun potentially and relaxation.

Putting the best foot forward while traveling

Putting the best foot forward while traveling

OK that you have made up your mind  to travel , the next big question now pops up is about knowing what the destinations is like  so as to double the pleasure of traveling. This can be achieved by only doing an in-depth research of the places. So what are the options available to you. As you are reading this article online, I would assume that your source of information would be the worldwide web as it the best possible medium with a most up-to-date data resource.  This article traces some of the online tools available to get you to the truth.

Travel Guides: This is perhaps the best possible source offering useful planning information. You can get a complete information on the overview of a place, how to reach, attractions, excursions, must do activities, important distances under a single source. The scene of online guidebooks just got very competitive after some of the big names from the publishing world and travel agencies (OTAs) have come out with their own set of travel guides covering all parts of the globe.

Well, these guides are wonderful and really worth for those short in time, but there are some follies associated with them also and following them like a holy grail is not always the best way to discover a place. Guidebooks especially those related to traveling in the Indian subcontinent do provide some sections which talks about the dangers and follies while traveling.  This can range from a series of stern to subtle warnings related to single woman travelers, going paranoid over the luggage, intentions of the average people on the street and a vast range of ‘dos and don’ts which sometimes border on outright comical and instigating panic. All these and much more are encapsulated under the “Dangers and Hazards” section of the guidebooks.

While there is no denying the fact that whatever they say must have been true to some people, but the problem arises when everyone starts to follow this wholly and truly. Bad and awful things  do happen but not all the hazards, problems or crimes occurs to someone  all the time as they want us to believe. India for most parts is safe and exercising a prudent judgment is often the solution to problems in the course of journey, while following a guidebook as an unyielding authority is not. Remember journey for a greater part is also a discovery.

Personal Blogs: The travel Blogs has now evolved as a highly popular source for getting authentic as well as unusual and sometimes very personal information, strangely enough for all their valuable content they are more often than not an overlooked resource. Blogs with a combination of relevant images, audio content (podcasts) and videos (vlogs) can become a highly effective travel resource.

Zeroing on the places of your interests along with the author credentials is a great way to do research of the blogs. As blogs are similar to journal or a diary it would be best to read the most recent entries. It may not be of the same week or a month before but gleaning over the most up-to-date information is preferable. Travel Blogs can sometimes give you a rare insight which is beyond any guidebooks. Sometimes the authors can seem to be a bit more adventurous than you usually are or the language is too personal or flowery but then these are some of the things which give the blog its inevitable spin. The best way is to search for at least 5/6 blogs on a single place and watch out if there is any trend emerging.

Travel Articles: Article is another great way to scout information about various locations. However credibility of the author and the source is vital.

Forums: Forums are a platform by the travelers for the travelers and of the travelers. That is the best way to describe a forum. There are plenty of forums you just need to find them in your favorite search engine to make them work to your needs. It is a favorite of the traveling community and a place that sees everybody agreeing or even agreeing to disagree.  The members in a forum are a helpful bunch of people who incase do not have the answer to any particular question would direct you to someone who knows that.  Information is mostly unbiased.  Forums talk of the distances, driving directions, safety considerations teal by actual people who have been to there. You can continue the thread by asking relevant questions after someone else’s post. However, to reiterate, the last word is better to gain a multiple set of opinions to see if there is a general consensus or trend emerging before concluding.

Travel Insurance When Traveling Mexico

travel insurance when traveling in Mexico

We turn to the left in the UK, readers of Mexico on the right.

Is it financial security in case of failure of your airline before or during your trip abroad?

socio-political

full insurance is strongly recommended when traveling through Mexico. Although it is a beautiful country, the risk of theft and damage are much higher. Mexico is currently an access point for the swine flu and travel is not recommended by the United Kingdom or the Mexican government. The British government will hold emergency flights to British citizens in the event of an influenza pandemic. Travel insurance that covers emergency flights in the United Kingdom are the only viable option, apart from meeting the cost of a return flight for you.

Mexico has a fierce political aspect. The demonstrations can turn violent very quickly and lead to a battle of giants. The laws of demonstrators in Mexico are very simple, if you are a foreigner is not allowed to be part of a demonstration. The penalty for being part of a demonstration can be as serious as deportation or detention.

Crime rates are particularly high in Mexico, especially the capital, Mexico City. Theft is rampant, passports stolen more than 140 times last year. Although necessary to the achievement of identity documents in Mexico, try to make a photocopy of relevant pages in place of his own passport.

Note that even if the Mexicans speak Spanish, you can listen in English. Be very cautious about business or other personal information, especially regarding financial details. Do not change large sums of money and keep a grip on handbags and wallets at all times.

Consider the people who present themselves as police officers who tried to fine or imprisonment for no apparent reason. There have been several instances of visitors becoming victims of theft, extortion or sexual assault by persons who may or may not be police officers. If in doubt, ask the prospect of identification (I can see, I Please Have ID?) Si note name of any staff, the badge number and patrol number

The hurricane season in Mexico runes from June to November. During these months of control of local media. Travel insurance can provide emergency flights after a hurricane, and of course health insurance is almost mandatory. There are two active volcanoes in Mexico, near the Popocatepetl and Colima, which are closed to the public. There are two danger areas around it, whose size can vary depending on the current level of volcanic activity. Natural earthquakes are possible here and in the region of Guerrero. Travel insurance can be useful in case this happens, allowing emergency flights home.

Travel Insurance in Mexico specific

Mexico has many wonders to see and do. Mexico is one of the best places for surfing, diving, body boarding and fishing. It is the second largest reef in the world, near the Yucatan Peninsula. Both divers and are surrounded by species not found anywhere else on Earth. If you choose to dive, it is recommended that water sports included in your travel insurance policy and a working knowledge of equipment to use.

So any time in Mexico is full of sunshine, but also a lot to visit the beach too. There are archaeological sites to see Chichen Itza, a Mayan ruin paradise. We are now at a critical juncture in force and are often hidden, and certainly not published, the complex work associated with your holiday booking, holiday tour vacation rental, a luxury cruise, Caribbean cruise, even a simple hotel reservation and car rental. Using the combined sites – to sell vacation information dot com, and to sell vacation point of information, the consumer has the unique opportunity to book and purchase travel packages online and enjoy the holiday selling prices

To justify the visit of these two unique visits to the site and paying less to sell vacations via the Internet, it is extremely important for understanding the complex of high-street travel agent, at this stage should be considered.

To enter the high street travel agents to book rooms and rest, you will undoubtedly increase your package travel very much, especially if you consider a travel agent, at best, will be booking your travel package with the same or very similar , travel agents, booking facilities, which are offered for sale from the point of vacation information.

The exception to this rule twice, first to sell a vacation point of info, have a unique opportunity to search the database of travel agents for holidays in the last minute to travel to sell the package prices, which are sold in some cases significantly reduce the price only to increase passenger capacity of individual airlines in the world – is to sell into depression “Financial Times” even more important to both airlines and travel consumers than a decade ago.

I do not suggest that high street travel do not have access to the same holiday selling prices, however, consider one very important aspect of the high street travel agents and the way in which they are forced to compete.
Secondly, imagine for a moment you enter your high street travel agents’ office in order to order and purchase of vacation package.

Sales Representative of the contribution of your travel package request in an intensive travel agents data. I think the high street travel agency representative will be presented a long list of possible relevant reservation price, and each choice will be to show different prices – Find a vacation point of sale information, as well as travel search results will show a big price difference, which is booking travel agent, ultimately, to propose to potential customers as a selection.

At this important stage of the argument, we must consider the impact on an individual high street travel agency representative, who may have a negative impact on the outcome of the elections, which might be considered relevant, and not always based on financial or worse individual travel needs of potential clients visit, which will be processed through the booking agents.

Consider the high street travel agents have the facilities and these facilities can provide the financial burden, – rent, rent, utilities, electricity to power the computer networks of heating and lighting, and more importantly the employer / employee wages and commissions – sometimes more commission on each of each travel vacations, vacation packages, luxury cruises, and basic amenities, vacation rental, even booking hotels and rental cars.

Thus, with a lot of pressure on the travel agent – representative of the critical decisions is even more important if the travel agency representative salary commission basis, the higher the sale price of the package the opportunity to sell more financial rewards, and in this time of credit, with the families of organizations reduce their travel extremely commitments high street travel representative may be facing financial pressure, highlighted the work that can not be all they could have experienced previously, and may adversely affect their decisions in relation to the selection requirements are based leisure travel vacation packages available to consumers.

Purchase your vacation packages associated with the holiday selling point of information, you will be presented with the same travel cost of such a global travel reservation database, the price of travel package will also include holiday selling prices, which offer a potential customer visits a very affordable options for the package travel and even more amazing potential travel customer / consumer will circumvent some of the high street travel agent representative is sometimes difficult to have a negative travel packages solutions and choose the exact travel vacation, vacation package, based on individual needs – the need for financial and personal promotional needs.

10 Tips For Traveling In Peru

November 6th, 2010 Comments off

I have spent 4 months traveling in Peru. While there I stayed in the following places: Lima, Miraflores, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Cajamarca, Huaráz, Chavín, Piura, Máncora, and Cusco. Here are some of the things that I learned and that I recommend to anyone planning to spend some time in that beautiful country. These tips are probably useful for most other Latin American countries as well. 1. Bring a travel guide book. Buy one before you go, as you won’t find any in English once you get there. Make sure that it is current as these can become obsolete rather quickly. These guides are great for getting referrals on places to visit, eat, or stay. They usually have great advice for travelers. And they make great reading material while you are traveling. 2. Bring ear plugs. These will help you drown out the early wake up calls from taxis in the morning as well as the usually obnoxiously loud movies that they show on the longer bus rides. I like the cheap foamy earplugs that you can get at the drug store. I recommend buying a big box of 20 or so. At least they are light to carry. 3. Travel light. Do you really want to lug around all that stuff? You’ll be much happier having less weight to carry with you. 4. Riding the buses. Most Peruvians commute between cities by bus. In fact, on the roads connecting the cities, you hardly see any personal vehicles. Only buses and cargo trucks. There are several bus lines in Peru and they are double decker size. The lower level is considered first class. The seats are bigger, there are only about 10 seats, and the bathroom is closer. The upper level is only a little cheaper. Like maybe $5 cheaper. The problem with the upper level is that it can be noisier (babies or the man snoring next to you) or smellier (men with cheap cologne) or too intimate (people next to you falling asleep and using your shoulder as a pillow). If the bus ride is a longer one, I prefer splurging on the first class seat. It is definitely a more comfortable ride. When you buy your ticket, you can usually pick the seat you want. If you are really feeling adventurous, and the bus is going down the Andes to the coast, I recommend the seat directly above the driver in the first row. There is a window view of the trip down the mountain which is exhilarating. But there is also a curtain in case it gets too scary. 5. Taxi driversYou think people drive crazy in the United States? No matter what city I was in, the cab drivers drive fast, rarely use signals, freely cross the multitude of intersections without stop signs or stoplights in any direction, and seem to communicate with each other via a series of bleeps and blips from their horns. It’s like a secret Morse code for taxistas. The good news is, I didn’t see a single car accident when I was there. I think the Peruvian taxi drivers are tapping into the Force to maneuver themselves. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!6. Pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way. That concept simple does not exist in Peru. Pedestrians have the right to get out of the way of oncoming traffic because it’s not going to stop for you. One of the things that weirded me out was, I’d be walking on the sidewalk in a smaller city. Then a cab would come up behind me and honk at me as if I needed a warning to get out of the way, even though there was no other traffic on the road, and the cab was at least 20 feet away from the sidewalk. This happens a lot and I decided that they are just lonely and saying “Hi”. 7. Going to CuscoThe bus ride to Cusco is about 24 hours, so you may want to consider flying. I didn’t and spent a scary trip from Cusco to Lima. There was a rock slide that backed up traffic for hours. We were the first ones there (coming down the mountain) and the bus driver decided to try to drive the bus over the rocks! Since that almost got us killed, he stopped the bus and we all got out and helped remove rocks from the road for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. Kinda surreal. 8. MoneyMy debit card worked just fine all over the country. The best thing to do is carry a small amount and pull money out of ATM´s as you need it. I also hide the majority of cash on hand somewhere safe, and keep a smaller amount in my pocket. This way, in the unlikely event that I got robbed, I would only lose a little bit. I actually learned that trick living in Chicago where the likelihood of getting robbed is way greater. The other thing I would do differently is have more than one bank account. That sure would have come in handy when I lost my debit card in Cusco! And be sure you let all your banks know that you are in Peru and the dates you are there. Otherwise they will probably pull the plug on your account under the suspicion of fraud. 9. Food and WaterIn general, food is cheap. It is more sanitary in the restaurants than the stands on the street or in the markets. Some street vendors sell very simple things like a potato or corn dish. There is also a delicious quinoa soup that you can find on the streets in Lima. In general, meat is going to have more potential of transferring bacteria and germs from unsanitary practices and not washing cutlery properly. So the simple vegetarian street food is probably much safer. I am a certified food handler, so I speak from the authority of having passed a test. Water should always be boiled to kill bacteria. So to be extra safe, order your drinks without ice. There is plenty of bottled water available. I used to buy liter bottles. Unfortunately there is a huge problem with unrecycled plastic bottles in Peru, but I’m not sure how to avoid buying bottled water while traveling. One of my favorite things was to have fresh-squeezed orange juice in the morning. In many cities you will find an orange juice vendor that has a homemade cart. He or she puts the orange in a vice and manually spins it against a cutter that peels the entire orange in 2 seconds. Then the orange is put into a hand presser. The juice is served in a glass that you return when you are done. There is a soap and water container built into the stand used to wash the glasses. 10. HostelsA private room in a hostel is usually about $10 a night. They are much cheaper than the hotels, and usually just as nice. It’s a little cheaper for a shared room where you will get the opportunity to meet other travelers, hear them snore and be awakened in the middle of the night when they stumble in drunk. If you value a good night’s sleep, I recommend getting a room to yourself. And if you want to have a guest, you will be able to. You usually have to pay for the guest though. If you want to find the cheapest places to stay, then look for the hippy artisans that sell their wares. They usually congregate in the plaza area. They usually are traveling from place to place, following the tourists destinations in the different seasons. They stay themselves where it’s cheapest. These places are a little off the beaten path and you may be the only gringo staying there, but it will be an interesting experience. These ten tips are what I learned from my experiences. You’ll find plenty of other useful tips in your tour guide. One thing to mention, which really isn’t a tip. Internet access is cheap and readily available in any city I went to. So that’s not something to worry about.

Watch Out For Bed Bugs When Traveling!

November 6th, 2010 Comments off

Did you know one of the main causes of bed bug infestations at your home derives from your recent travel and vacations? Concerned travelers may want to get in the habit of checking their “rented” beds for signs of bed bugs. This would entail examining the bed sheets and upper and lower seams of the mattress, especially along the head of the bed. Some professionals also suggest removal and examination behind the headboard, a frequent hiding place for the bugs in hotel rooms. If bed bugs are discovered, travelers should also want to elevate their bags off the floor onto a stand or tabletop. You can simply contact your hotel manager and request a room change. If travelers experience itchy red spots when awakening, it would be prudent upon returning home (before unpacking) to place all clothing in disposable plastic bags after thoroughly cleaning your clothes. Once home destination arrival, immediately rewash your clothes and wash out your luggage entirely. It is recommended that you do this outdoors to prevent any loose bugs from reaching within the walls of your home.

Travel Tips

Since the common source of bed bugs is from recent travels, here is a list of travel tips to avoid and prevent infestations.

1. When upon entering a room, look for hide outs where bed bugs could potentially reside. For example, inspect carpet edges, mattresses, bed boards, walls, and corners.

2. Thoroughly inspect and observe your mattress. Look for signs of bed bugs such as bloodstains, eggs, and fecal matter.

3. Keep a flashlight in handy when it’s time for bed. If you feel creepy crawlers, you might actually have an infestation problem in your hands. Use the flashlight for reassurance.

4. Keep all your clothes off the floor. Use hangers at all times.

5. When unpacking, remember to seal your luggage bags to prevent possible bed bugs from getting inside. In addition keep your luggage/bag elevated. 6. When finished with your travels, be sure to wash your clothes thoroughly before placing them back into your luggage. If infestation is apparent, after wash bag your clothes in a plastic bag (garbage bag) before luggage placement.

Other than that, do try to have a good time on your trip. This article was not written to scare you but to keep you aware of travel bugs. The last we all need is to encounter more bug problems at the comfort of our own homes.

Frugal Rv Traveling Tips: Keeping an Eye on the Road ? and your Budget

November 6th, 2010 Comments off

Hitting the road in your RV and the RV lifestyle can be one of the most economical ways to travel. If you do a little planning and research ahead of time, it’s easy to save even more – without ever feeling like you’re pinching pennies.

One obvious way to take the frugal route is to plan your RV travel during the “shoulder seasons” – before and after prime travel time – when discounts are often offered at various campgrounds and attractions. Here are 5 cost-cutting RV travel tips that are good any time of the year:1. RV Travel On One Tank of Gas

Remember the ending to The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy says she doesn’t have to look any further than her own backyard to find her heart’s desire? Well, we’re not suggesting camping out right outside the house, but think about going to places not too far away that you’ve always meant to check out.

You’ll be surprised at how many new and interesting destinations are just one tank of gas away. A lot of territory can be covered in just a few hundred miles, and you’re bound to discover exciting locations you never knew existed so close to home. Tip: Your neighborhood library is a terrific resource for researching local and state information and attractions – and most of it is free!2. Put Your RV On A Diet And Get Better Gas-Mileage

It’s a simple fact that the less your RV weighs, the more mileage you’ll get on the road. Look around for places in your rig where you can institute a “less is more” policy.

For example, you don’t have to set out with a full, fresh water tank for your RV excursion. Take what you need for the first day’s travel, plus a small reserve, and fill up once you’ve reached your day’s destination.

Forget that bulky, economy-sized can of coffee: empty a smaller amount into an airtight plastic container that you can refill later. (One place not to cut back, though, is tire inflation: riding on fully inflated tires is a sure way to increase your gas mileage. )Tip: When buying food staples, consider dehydrated items like soup and dried fruit, and transfer cereal and pasta from bulky boxes into heavy-duty plastic bags – not only do they take up less space, you can reuse them once they’re empty!3. Plastic not Paper Dinnerware – A More Economical Approach Overall

Sure, the eat-and-toss approach of paper plates and cups is the easy way to go – and might even seem economical when you buy in bulk. But lightweight, inexpensive plastic dishes are easy to find, and while they might not last forever, they’ll certainly see you through the duration of a long-distance RV excursion.

Choosing plastic over a big stack of paper goods is also another way to save on weight, especially when you’re starting out on your RV trip. Tip: Buy your plastic ware in a mix-and-match variety of vibrant colors, and these snazzy dishes will brighten up even the simplest road fare!4. Drive Less, Stay More – Save on Gas AND Get Campsite Discounts

When creating your RV travel itinerary, consider making fewer stops and spending more time at each destination. This will save on fuel and campsites costs as most of them offer discounts for lengthier stays.

By driving less and staying more, you’ll receive an additional benefit: It’s much more relaxing to know that once you’ve turned off the ignition you’re settling in for a while. Also, by spending more time in one place, you’ll be able to do some more in-depth exploring of the area. Tip: Look online at the local newspaper for the area you’ll be visiting. Check for listings of events that you might not hear about otherwise … and don’t forget to look in the classifieds for yard sales and flea markets, too!5. Stop and Shop – At Local Discount or Dollar Stores

When you need to refill on groceries avoid supermarkets and convenience stores where prices are at a premium. Instead, look for local discount and dollar stores and roadside fruit and vegetable stands — depending on the season. You might not save much money there, but there’s nothing better than freshly picked produce.

Keep an eye open for discount outlets in the area. And stop at flea markets and yard sales where you might find a one-of-a-kind treasure. Not only do these unconventional choices offer the opportunity to find unusual items, it’s a great way to get to know the local neighborhoods and people. Tip: Keep your birthday and holiday gift list handy – you might spot the perfect knickknack for a family member at someone’s yard sale! Some Final Frugal RV Travel Tips:

- Make use of the cheaper parks, like state parks

- Join Good Sam Club for 10% discount at their parks

- Subscribe to RV magazines for great ideas on RV travel

- Shop around for best prices on camping stuff like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, GI Joes – instead of RV stores

- Avoid buying your RV “supplies” – like toilet paper – that claim to be for RVs/motorhomes. Save money and buy the cheap stuff.

- Save money and cook all your meals in the RV; don’t eat out. You can even make dishes ahead and store in your RV’s refrigerator

- Ask for senior discounts everywhere you go

- If members of AAA, see if any campgrounds give discounts. Look at a “Trailer Life Campground Directory” at your local library to compare camping fees.

- Plan!!

How Can You Avoid Thefts, Cons, and Street Scams When Traveling?

November 5th, 2010 Comments off

Airports, bus and train stations, and other crowded areas where travelers are in close quarters are where pickpockets prefer to operate.   There are a number of dos and don’ts to avoid becoming victimized when you travel, most of which are common sense.   Here are some.

Don’t wear jewelry or an expensive looking watch as that is an invitation to be robbed. Wear a money belt under you shirt or blouse to help foil pickpockets as well as muggers.

It is a good idea to put your things in a Ziploc type bag and then put the bag in your money belt.   The reason for this is that the money belt and the items in it will get soaked from your perspiration, especially in hot climates, and this will help keep them dry.   Do not open your money belt in public to take out credit cards, cash, or traveler’s checks

. It might be worth it before you leave on vacation to sew a few pockets on the inside of your slacks, skirts, or underclothing where you can stash some spare cash when you are out and about for the day.   If you are carrying credit cards, cash, or traveler’s checks on your person, you should divide them up and put them in different pockets.   Then, if a pickpocket is successful, he or she won’t steal everything.   It also makes sense to use a safety pin to make each pocket opening smaller so that a pickpocket will have difficulty pulling anything out of your pockets without you being aware of it.

If a number of children gather around you in the street and cause a commotion, you are likely being targeted by pickpockets who are using the children to distract you.   If a couple of locals start a yelling and shoving match near you, they could be a distraction for pickpockets.   Another method of distraction is to have someone collapse and fall down in front of you.   When you bend over to help them, the pickpocket goes into action.   A variation involves two thieves working together, one gently dropping some ice cream, ketchup or mustard on one of your shoulders and then distracting you by pointing to the mess and helping to wipe it off.   The other pickpocket will then go into action.

Pickpockets prefer to target men with their wallets invitingly exposed in their back pockets, and  obese people because they are less likely to feel their pockets being picked.   You must be especially vigilant in airports, bus and train stations and watch your luggage, camera, and laptop like a hawk as they can disappear in an instant.   Keep in mind that pickpockets love tourists, especially when they are in crowds.

Be vigilant when you are wearing a backpack.   Thieves may slash the bottom of it, spilling all the contents onto the street where he and his accomplices grab your possessions and run away in different directions.

Usually muggings occur at night and not in a busy, bustling part of the city.   If you are accosted by an armed robber, do not argue or resist.   Give them what they want and be thankful that you don’t get hurt.   Whatever they take from you can be replaced and is not worth risking your life over.

After reading Bob Arno’s book on how people can avoid thefts, cons, and street scams, we felt that it would be a valuable book for anyone who goes on vacation, or travels for business, to also read.   It is full of information and photos that show you how many scams work.   There is no limit as to what criminals can think of to steal and rip-off from unsuspecting tourists.

Bob is one of the world’s foremost experts on identity theft, street crime, and scams,   If  you want to find out how to protect yourself when on holidays as well as at home, you should read his book, “Travel Advisory! How to Avoid Thefts, Cons, and Street Scams While Traveling”.   You may be able to find it at your local library.   If not, it is available through his website, BobArno. com, or Amazon. com.

He has been interviewed on CNN, MSNBC, ABC’s 20/20, The Travel Channel, The Learning Channel, Discovery Channel, and has had articles written about him in USA Today, National Geographic Traveler, Fortune Magazine, The New York Times, and Time Magazine.

His book is full of humor, true stories, as well as many photos of pickpockets and street scam artists in action.   In our opinion, his book is worth its weight in gold, and is a must-read for anyone who wants to learn how to protect themselves and their family when traveling, and even in their own home town.

Running While Traveling

November 4th, 2010 Comments off

As a runner, sometimes it can be difficult to keep up with a training schedule, especially if you travel a lot for work or when you go on vacation. I am reminded of a recent vacation I took that was about a month before a half-marathon that I had been training for. I knew that I was going to have to get a few runs in during my trip or I would negate the training I had been doing for the past 2 months.

The tricky thing about this trip was that it was a cruise to Alaska. I wasn’t comfortable running outside because of the extreme wilderness in the area (honestly I was afraid I would be eaten by a bear or something crazy like that), so I knew my only option would be to run on the treadmills in the workout facility onboard the cruise ship. To my surprise it is actually quite challenging to run on a treadmill while the boat is rocking back and forth. My body was not used to this motion and I started to feel very tired and a little sea sick after about 2 miles. During the course of the week-long cruise every time I tried to run, I could only get up to about 2 or 3 miles before my body would give up.

As you can tell from my story, running on vacation or in any location away from home can be challenging but sometimes you just have to run to keep up with your training schedule. Running in different locations can be very fun and refreshing. As many runners will attest to, it can get very boring running the same 3 or 4 routes around your home. Therefore when you get the chance to run while traveling, make sure you take the opportunity.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when running in unfamiliar places. First, always put safety first. You never know how safe an area is that you may be running in while traveling so make sure that you are either running with someone or have a cell phone with you while running in case of an emergency. It is also smart to run during daylight and in areas where public assistance is available. Second, make sure you know what kind of weather to expect. If you are from Houston, Texas and you go to Seattle on a trip and decide to go for a run outside then you better have some extra layers of water proof clothing on or you may end up with some nasty blisters from one of the most rainy cities in America.

The most important thing to remember when running while traveling is to play it safe. You may feel the urge to get out there and run in a new environment but make sure you are prepared. Running in new places can be a great adventure if done cautiously.

Does Traveling Kill your Diet?

One of the side-effects of summer travel and vacationing is that it often is the killer of many a well intentioned dieter.   Fast food, airline food, new restaurants can all very easily turn a conscious calorie counter into a calorie junkie.   Luckily, there are four easy things that everyone can do while traveling to maintain their diet and avoid sabotaging otherwise healthy eating. The primary thing that everyone should do when traveling is to take a multivitamin.   A multivitamin serves a psychological purpose as well as a nutritional purpose.   Nutritionally it provides you with all the vitamins and nutrients you need while avoiding eating additional calories.   This gives the traveler a blanket safety-et of nutrition without the cost of the calories.   Psychologically, taking a multivitamin each day is a reminder of your commitment to your diet, even while traveling.    When visiting family or friends and exploring a new place it is easy to forget your dieting goals; take a multivitamin as a daily reminder that provides vitamins and keeps you focused. Another thing that people often forget to do is drink enough water.   Ask for it instead of sodas and juices at restaurants and drink it on the plane.   It will help suppress your appetite and keep your body flushing out all the toxins and waste that build up.   Drinking water is also important to keep your appetite sated.   A bit problem with added calories while traveling is in added snacks when you feel a touch hungry.   Often a lack of hydration is misunderstood as a hunger pain; and drinking adequate water will help with that. Third, avoid empty calories while traveling! Avoid all those sugary sodas and cocktails that are just flat out full of empty, un-nutritional calories.   When you have to eat airline or fast food, ask for water instead of the soda.   If you are going out for drinks with friends or coworkers; avoid cocktails with lots of sugary mixers.   Light beer or light soda can work as a great mixer that allows you to be social without packing on the added empty calories.  Finally you can try carrying around healthy and safe appetite suppressant snacks.   Snacks like these are typically loaded with high energy supplements like guarana, green tea and b vitamins.   Those energy boosters help keep your metabolism up while suppressing your appetite.   Be careful with appetite suppressants, but carefully using them can help you make it through a long flight or drive without resorting to fast and unhealthy foods or snacks.   For an added bonus, look for appetite suppressant snacks that have energy ingredients plus.   Good things to look for are other healthful ingredients like hoodia and antioxidants.   Hoodia is a popular plant extract that is shown to be a helpful ingredient in weight loss, and finding an appetite suppressant snack that contains it can be a great tool in combating travel-related weight gain.  Don’t let traveling kill your diet – follow easy steps like this and be secure in your dieting while traveling for business or pleasure.
